On the way

Today is the first day of driving. As a kid I try to point the beautiful things out. Maybe how pretty the trees are when they bloom or how blue the sky was. A lot of  people look at people from the outside and that's how people are looking at the people who live in Pine Ridge. On the inside they just want to live normal lives like us citizens, but they can't because they need our help to help them build buildings, homes, and offices. If more people start noticing the world some other people live in maybe the people of Pine Ridge could start a new improved life. Today is the second day of driving. I started off with a three hour nap starting at five in the morning. Today we are visiting the first school. I can't wait to see what it's like there. It's a seven hour drive today. I'm going to try to point out the beautiful things in that school, because I know that there is a lot of bad things people could point about that school. In life you should always try to point out the beautiful things. Then later on you can think inside of you wow what should I do to help this become a better place. Today is the third day. We visted our first school. Little Wounded Knee it was k-12. It was very beautiful. Last night we talked to someone who taught us some Lakota. He was very nice. Now we're headed to Crazy Horse Mountain. We ate dinner in Rapid City. We started at eight this morning. Today was the fourth day. We visted OLC the Oglala Lakota College. There k-5 program was doing bead work. It was absolutely amazing. It's the only college on the reservation. I skyped my class and told my class about life on Pine Ridge. Then we visted Porcupine School. A very beautiful school. Brand new. Then we visted Wounded Knee school. Which probably was the best school for kids to go to. They did a program where they would help the parents with laundry.  They had set up a laundry space for the parents, but they could only use the laundry mat if they spent some time with the kids. They also had a program where they would backpack food for the kids that didn't have any over the weekends. Then that night we were supposed to meet Tiger, but he had to go to a unscheduled meeting to go to. So we had dinner with Dayna our tour/best friend. Today was the fifth day. This morning it snowed! This morning we also visited Pine Ridge School and toured with Will Peters. Then to the tribal education building. We had lunch at subway. Then we went to Kili which is a radio station on Pine Ridge. Everybody was talking about our time in Pine Ridge and how much we enjoyed our time. Then last night we started our drive back home. We drove to Sioux Falls and didn't get there until 11:00 last night. Today is the last day. We started this morning at 8:45 and should get there around 4:30-5:00. I just wanted to save thank you to Nyree, Sundae ,Victor, Joe, Dawn, Anna, Dayna, and Bob. Thank for leading for the past couple of days. Hope to see you again some day or soon.

Pine Ridge Reservation

My thoughts prior to the trip to the reservation are:
How big this Indian tribe is and how much people need to help the Lakota  families.
Why is this place forgotten?
Why do people not notice them out there?
Why is nobody making a changes?

My future hopes for this tribe and what I want to happen is:
For the Indians to help open businesses for people to work in
To help make new homes in Pine Ridge

Other things I've learn prior to going:
Out there, there are not enough jobs for everybody to work at
People don't have enough money for enough food.
There are usually over 20 people in each little house.

Usually people say "oh Indians are so different from normal people ," but no they're just like us, but right now they need more.
One thing I know is that these Native Americans haven't lost is hope and part of their "old" culture.
They still do Lakota dances and can speak and sing in Lakota.
They know one day there life will get better and they will live equally to citizens in our country because they are part of our country.

Documenting a Life

This blog is an attempt to hold story. As artifacts are created in life, it is easy for them to slip into places of forgotten time and space. Together, I hope Ellie and I use this as a sandbox to pictures, video, documents, and more.
